Things to Do and See in Rayleigh, Essex

Patients visit our clinic from various parts of Essex and London. So if you are coming for a treatment from Mark then you may want to have a look around. We’re proud to be a local Rayleigh business and here is our quick guide to what the town has to offer.

A traditional town with old character and a plethora of shopping allows for a relaxing, historical time on family vacation. This is the main centre in the Rochford District. There is plenty to do while there if you are with the family or just alone or a small group, but there is something for everyone.

Place to Go In Rayleigh

Base Jump Trampoline Park and Rayleigh Indoor Karting Stadium

If you have children and are looking for something fun to do to take the kids (or the adult child also known as a spouse) that feels like home and can just break up the day. These two activities are highly rated, one where you can ride and race in go-carts and the other you can safely jump on trampolines. This would be a good place to go just to burn off some energy and let them have some time to run off extra energy.

Rayleigh Windmill

A place to learn a little and enjoy (and have a wedding or a reception) but this is a place to take in indeed. This is a 200-year-old Windmill where you can go in and learn how it works, dress in traditional costumes and learn about a castle that previously stood on Rayleigh Mount. Different season pose various activities and exhibits so make sure you check out what is going on before visiting and planning your trip. Free entry, but a donation is always appreciated.

Rayleigh Mount

A perfect stop after taking in the Windmill it is the site of an ancient fort. Here you can enjoy a picnic, take a pleasant stroll and enjoy the views when you get to the top. There is still part of the moat that used to surround the fort as well. During the year there are also outdoor Shakespearian plays to take in for an enjoyable day in the park.

The Clay and Craft Cottage Pottery

If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and being creative, this is the place to go. For a relatively small price, you can do something for the entire family. They offer potters wheels, clay, you can do baby prints and animal prints, and putting them in the fire to set is not an extra feel. Having fabulous reviews this should be an excellent place to check out during your stay.

The Dutch Cottage

Dating from the 18th century this is a cute historical building to go to and enjoy the work that was done. Guided tours of the building last about an hour and can be done on Wednesday afternoons. However do be aware that it is not wheelchair accessible and not the best for children either due to the need to climb a ladder to get into an area.

Places to Eat In Rayleigh

When visiting Rayleigh, you’ll want to check out some of these locations to try out. Every night you could have something different.

Squires

Because you can’t leave without having tea, you should try Squires, Rayleigh’s oldest tea and coffee shop. Breakfast is also served but if you want an English experience you can go here to have a quiet afternoon with traditional English tea. Why not take the time to relax and enjoy the sights. But if tea isn’t your thing they also offer coffee.

Silver Spoon Café

With fabulous looking food and reviews that speak to a fantastic staff, you’ll want to take a stop here. You can get a wide variety of food from breakfast foods, to lasagne, vegetarian meals, and sandwiches you can fill your empty stomach. But always save room for cakes, scones and tea at the end, because those are things you won’t want to miss. Also, it’s reasonably priced, so you won’t break the bank while you’re there.

The Barrington Grill

If you are looking for ribs and comfort food, this is the place to be. But you’ll want to try them out not at prime hours because otherwise, you will be waiting for a bit both before being seated and to get your food. However, you can wait at the pub and have a few drinks before. A signature dish would be the ribs, so you have to be sure you have that, and again, save room for dessert.

The Clean Plate

Of course, we have also to let you know that they do have a restaurant that offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options as well. So if you are health conscious, you might want to try that. This is pretty much if you have restrictions to what you eat, but also if you want to try and not feel so bloated after you have eaten all the good food at the other locations. Definitely for the health conscious but the options are delicious and tasty for anyone.

La Romantica

For a romantic setting for you and the spouse or a well thought up family meal, this would be the ticket. I would make this the last night stop to wind down and enjoy good food and a classic atmosphere. True Italian food with a wine selection to match, this would be the perfect sit down classy meal that won’t cost you an arm and a leg either.

When you come to Rayleigh in Essex, you’ll want to allow yourself time to enjoy the foods and the ample shopping in the market square. Choose a good time for weather so that you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors as well considering you’ll want to check out the windmill and Rayleigh Mount, take in a show, and have a picnic. This is a great place to go if you are bringing a family, because among these options there are also a lot of other locations to take the children to run off some extra energy. But they aren’t obviously a requirement, just go and enjoy the area and the food that the neighbourhood has to offer.
